HySA Systems at the Budget Vote Exhibition 2014

A delegation from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) visitedHySA Systems (UWC) booth at the Budget Vote Exhibition 2014 organized by the DST at the Company’s Garden in Cape Town on 22 July 2014. Her Honourable Naledi Pandor – Minister of Science and Technology together with Dr Phil Mjwara Director-General of the Science and Technology familiarized the newly appointed Deputy Minister Mrs Zanele Kamagwaza-Msibi with the National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Research, Development and Innovation Strategy – HySA Programme.

The latest outputs of the HySA Systems Competence Centre works were presented and newly developed prototypes were demonstrated. The HySA Sys-Electric Scooter with a Fuel Cell Range Extender, a direct output of the project under the KP-3 Hydrogen Fuelled Vehicles, was presented. In this setup, the hydrogen used for fuel cell operation is stored in metal hydride tanks developed at the Centre. The HySA Sys-Fuel Cell Power Generator developed in cooperation with a local industrial partner – Hot Platinum (Pty) Ltd was demonstrated –. Other demos as fuel cell stack components, metal hydride materials as well as lithium-ion batteries produced at the Centre were showcased at the exhibition.

Dr Cordellia Sita, Chief Director of Hydrogen and Energy for the RSA DST discussed with Dr Sivakumar Pasupathi Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Key Programme Manager at HySA Systems the aspects of the hydrogen and fuel cell technology developments.
