Victor Hess joined the HYSA Research group in 2010 to research the development of a comprehensive three-dimensional model for a high temperature polymer electrolyte fuel – cell and stack. This research is being conducted via a PhD study at the University of Cape Town, with practical research data obtained through the HYSA fuel-cell laboratories.
Previous research include areas of abstract algebra in which new computation techniques were developed to compute non-cancellation groups , especially of the type that has non-abelian torsion radicals. Victor Hess, also spent many years in the development of physical science and mathematics curricula for the South African high school education system, as well as in the training of physical science educators. He is currently employed as a senior lecturer in the department of mathematics and physics at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
