Earl Mc Donald completed his undergraduate degree in Chemical Sciences (Chemistry) at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in 2010, and went on to obtain his honors degree in Material Sciences (Physics) at UWC in 2011. With the beginning of a newly started program focusing on Nanotechnology, he is currently in the process of obtaining his MSc, started in 2012, with his research focused palladium membranes for use in gas separation technologies.
